Standard 3/4” thick porcelain pavers should be installed over a concrete base with gaps filled with a cement based grout. Our range of heavy duty 1 1/8” thick porcelain pavers are an excellent option which can also be laid over concrete or, with 3 times the breaking strength of 3/4” pavers, can be set on a compacted gravel and sand bed.
Smaller format Cobblestone style porcelain pavers can be set in mortar over concrete, or for low traffic installation where the ground is well compacted, a grid system such as UltraBaseSystems is acceptable.
With a non-porous surface offering exceptional resistance to oil stains, grease, mold and mildew, driveways and carports paved with porcelain pavers need far less cleaning, no harsh chemicals, and no sealers to keep their like-new appearance and condition.

Mortar and Grout
Where the balcony structure can accept pavers laid directly on the substrate, traditional mortar and grout products work well with porcelain pavers. Installing without grout lines is acceptable.
Compacted Beds
Compact a bed of gravel according to local construction codes with a well defined perimeter to minimize lateral movement. Lay porcelain pavers over top, and polymeric sand where grout lines exist.
Heavy Duty Pavers - 1 1/8” thick
While standard 3/4” (2cm) thick porcelain pavers are sufficient for most driveway applications, consider heavier duty 1 1/8” (3cm) thick porcelain pavers on commercial settings and where the substrate is other than a flat concrete slab.
