Porcelain pavers on Rooftop Decks

Where decking materials can be elevated off waterproof membranes on flat rooftops, European Paver Company’s adjustable height pedestal systems offer a cost saving solution with numerous benefits over traditional deck joist system.
With a flat and wide diameter base, these adjustable pedestals distribute loads so as to not damage the membrane. Adjustable from 1” to over 30” in height, deck surfaces can easily be leveled across small residential to large commercial sloping substrates. As the substrate slopes lower towards drains, simply twist or screw rows of pedestals higher to maintain a level walking surface.
While traditional planks can be attached to our pedestal system with the addition of a ‘joist head’, the standard head was designed for pavers. Built in spacer tabs keep pavers perfectly aligned and gaped 1/8” for optimum water drainage, allowing rain to freely flow off the deck surface to drains below. A built in layer of rubber creates a barrier between pedestal and paver, absorbing any possible sound when walked on.
The static load capacity of European Paver Company pedestals exceeds 4,000lbs, making it possible to install planter boxes, service bars, heavy concrete and stone furniture and pergolas on pedestal elevated decks where the load of such items is distributed amongst numerous pedestals.
Porcelain pavers by European Paver Company are lightweight, making them easier to install and much less of a load on the substructure than concrete pavers. They are mold and mildew resistant, meaning significantly less maintenance to keep them presentable. And unlike concrete requiring sealants or wood deck planks needing stained on an ongoing maintenance schedule, porcelain pavers are naturally fade resistant in the intense tropical sun.
Should there become a need to inspect the rooftop, repair leaks, unclog drains, run conduit and cables for lighting and other electrical features on the roof deck, simply lift porcelain pavers off the pedestals for quick and easy access to work, and then replace the pavers when finished.

Adjustable Height Pedestal Systems
Elevate and level a deck of pavers over slightly sloping flat rooftops. Pedestals range in adjustable heights from 1” to 30” inches, provide self-leveling heads with built in spacer tabs allowing water to freely drain off pavers to drains below, protect the waterproof membrane and offer easy future access below deck to conduct maintenance. Avoid costly and labor intensive manufactured steel joist systems which often penetrate waterproof membranes on rooftop decks.
Paver Pads for Low Height
Elevate a deck of pavers on flat rooftops with only 1” of vertical height needed. Pads range in height from 1/4” - 3/8” thick and are stackable to 1” high. Pavers follow the slope of the rooftop and maintain a 1/8” gap for efficient water drainage due to built in spacer tabs on the pads. Future access for roof maintenance and inspection requires a simple lift of the pavers as nothing is adhered or fixed in position.
Mortar and Grout
Where pavers need fixed to the substrate, a topping slab is commonly poured over the rooftop insulation, drainage and waterproofing layers, to which European Paver Company large format porcelain pavers can be adhered with mortar and joints grouted.
